About the role

The RN: Training & Development Manager provides leadership and oversight for nursing education, clinical competency, orientation, professional development, and regulatory training within the skilled nursing and long-term care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive nursing education and staff-development program based on regulatory requirements, the facility assessment, resident population, clinical outcomes, identified risks, staff competencies, survey findings, and organizational priorities.
  • Develops, coordinates, and participates in nursing orientation for newly hired RNs, LPNs, GNAs/CNAs, CMAs, and other applicable clinical staff.
  • Establishes and maintains competency-based education and validation using observation, return demonstration, simulation, case scenarios, written assessment, record review, and other appropriate methods.
  • Develops and maintains an annual nursing education calendar addressing mandatory regulatory education, facility-specific risks, clinical needs, annual competencies, and professional development.
  • Integrates in-person instruction and computer-based learning; selects the educational modality according to subject matter, employee role, learning objective, risk level, and need for hands-on validation.
  • Serves as a clinical education resource for PointClickCare and assists staff in improving documentation of assessments, care plans, progress notes, changes in condition, ADLs, treatments, medication administration, MDS, and other applicable documentation.
  • Provides education supporting continuity of care, regulatory compliance, resident outcomes, MDS/clinical assessment processes, reimbursement, and accurate representation of services provided.
  • Uses audits, incident trends, medication errors, falls, wounds, infections, hospital transfers/readmissions, grievances, documentation deficiencies, survey findings, and other quality indicators to identify targeted education needs.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and facility leadership in developing and implementing educational components of Plans of Correction and performance-improvement initiatives.
  • Participates actively in QAPI and presents relevant educational, competency, compliance, and outcome data as requested.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and Maryland regulations, CMS guidance, professional standards, evidence-based practices, and changes affecting skilled nursing and long-term care; updates education accordingly.

  • Ensures required nurse aide in-service education and competency activities are completed and appropriately documented in accordance with applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Develops individualized remediation plans for identified knowledge or competency deficits and collaborates with supervisors to evaluate sustained improvement.
  • Evaluates whether education results in improved knowledge, competency, documentation, clinical practice, or resident outcomes rather than relying solely on attendance or module completion.
  • Promotes incorporation of current evidence-based practice into nursing policies, procedures, competencies, and bedside care.

Requirements
