RN Supervisor PT12 (7:00pm-7:30am) Weekend

About the Role

This position provides direct oversight of healthcare staff to ensure continuity of care and reports to the Director of Nursing or designee. The role is committed to upholding the Mission, Vision, Values, and Guiding Principles of Maryland Masonic Homes, fostering "Meaningful Living" for residents and their families.

Schedule: 7:00pm–7:30am, alternating Week 1: Sunday and Week 2: Saturday.

Candidates must hold an active CPR and First Aid certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or an AHA-approved training provider. This is an hourly position with pay based on license issue date.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee shift services, programs, and activities with nursing and support staff.
• Sign and review 24-hour reports daily, including reports from all areas when acting as a free-floating supervisor.
• Review nurse’s notes to ensure they are informative, descriptive, and reflect resident responses to care.
• Communicate with discharging hospitals to obtain necessary information for new and readmitted residents.
• Supervise nursing staff to ensure quality resident care and adequate staffing levels for each shift.
• Interact with attending physicians to review treatment plans, records, and orders in accordance with policies.
• Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment, ensuring an adequate supply of floor stock items.
• Oversee narcotic records, documentation, and disposal in compliance with regulations and policies.
• Review medication Kardex for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to stop-order policies.
• Conduct rounds of nursing units and utilize the call-out book per policy.
• Address complaints and grievances from assigned personnel and report to the Director of Nursing (DON).
• Maintain a positive working rapport with inter-departmental personnel to meet resident needs.
• Foster a warm, calm, and supportive environment for residents, families, and staff.
• Hold regular meetings with nursing personnel to identify and correct problem areas or improve services.
• Evaluate assigned department’s workforce and make recommendations to the DON regarding staffing, performance, and dismissals.
• Monitor nursing reports at the start and end of shifts and conduct rounds with physicians as needed.
• Implement and maintain nursing objectives and standards, ensuring compliance with facility policies and regulations.
• Perform periodic checks to evaluate residents' physical and emotional status and report changes to the Director.
• Assist in planning for residents' total needs and recommend adequate staffing levels.
• Provide leadership during evening/night shifts to address concerns from residents, families, and employees.
• Ensure nursing staff compliance with facility policies, procedures, and state/federal regulations.
• Perform chart audits and monitor medication administration to ensure adherence to orders.
• Act as a staff nurse when needed and provide in-service training to staff.
• Monitor the status of all residents and ensure clinical needs are met in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited LPN/RN school.
• Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Nurse in Maryland.
• Minimum of one-year long-term care experience preferred.
• Active CPR and First Aid certification (AHA or AHA-approved provider).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Strong nursing decision-making skills and ability to handle challenging situations tactfully.
• Knowledge of nursing practices, procedures, and long-term care regulations.
• Willingness to learn leadership and supervisory skills and work harmoniously with all personnel.
• Ability to plan, organize, develop, and interpret programs, policies, and procedures for quality care.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Completion of 8 hours of Dementia Training within 90 days of employment.
• Patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a cheerful disposition when working with residents and staff.
• Willingness to adopt new methods and principles to improve nursing procedures.
• Ability to accurately communicate resident conditions and attend mandatory in-services.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday and cope with mental/emotional stress.
• Function independently with flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and agencies.
• Sight/hearing senses (or prosthetics) adequate to meet position requirements.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment/supplies in excess of 50 pounds.
• Ability to assist in resident evacuations.
• Works in office areas, medication rooms, nurse’s stations, and resident rooms.
• Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
• Subject to frequent interruptions and communication with medical/nursing personnel.
• Works beyond normal hours, weekends, holidays, and may be subject to mandatory overtime.
• Attends continuing education programs and may be exposed to falls, injuries, odors, infections, and diseases (e.g., AIDS, Hepatitis B).
• Liaises with residents, families, and support departments to plan for resident needs.
• Ability to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, or hostile individuals.
