RN Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner SANE

Job Summary The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner evaluates all patients who present to the emergency department with a complaint of violent assault, including but not limited to victims of sexual assault, domestic or intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking. The SANE will collaborate with the ER physician, local law enforcement, and victim advocate services to provide comprehensive medical and psychosocial treatment and forensic evidence collection. Job Responsibilities Obtain consent and patient history to formulate a plan of care as well as assess and conduct safety planning for victims and their familiesCollaborate with medical providers, victim advocates, law enforcement, Department of Child Services and other social service agencies to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhancement of the patient experienceEstablish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, families, and coworkersCoordinate care by all agencies involved in assisting the sexual assault victim and coordinate referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed Assess, collect, and analyze comprehensive objective, subjective, psychosocial, and cultural data pertinent to patient conditionPerform a complete physical and forensic examination for assessment for trauma with possible evidence collection when applicableDocument detailed injuries with the support of photographic evidence as requiredProvide courtroom testimony related to the care and treatment provided.Other duties as assigned. Education Requirements Minimum: Graduate of an accredited Associate Registered Nurse Program by date of hire.Preferred: BSN Experience Requirements Minimum: One (1) year of clinical experience as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Minimum: License/Certification Requirements Registered Nurse License eligible to practice in the state of IndianaSexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) DesignationBasic Life Safety (BLS) - American Heart Association Preferred: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Certification (SANE) - International Association of Forensic NursesAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through AHA within six (6) months of hire Education Required Associates or better in Nursing Licenses & Certifications Required BLS- Basic Life SupportRegistered Nurse Equal Opportunity Employer This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
