About the role
This position serves all UCSD Radiology modalities including MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Breast Imaging and Diagnostics at multiple UCSD locations. The workflow may include:
- Caring for a high volume of patients per day in a radiology setting
- Assisting anesthesia providers during imaging studies
- Assuming care of patients from outside facilities transported for imaging studies
- Providing oversight of LVNs in the Radiology setting
- Working with patients receiving radioactive isotopes, requiring use of a dosimeter to monitor safe radiation exposure levels
The Radiology RN will float to areas within the department as needed, including all locations. Autonomous nursing care is expected, with independent judgment exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assess and provide nursing actions for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge
- Practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance
- Exercise independent judgment in a fast-paced radiology environment
- Implement and evaluate nursing interventions
- Communicate effectively with technologists, LVNs, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients both verbally and in writing
- Handle unexpected challenges with a patient-centered approach
- Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical skills in identifying patient needs
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
- RN License issued by the State of California
- BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire; commitment to obtain ART within six (6) months of hire
- Minimum of two (2) years of RN experience in ICU, IR, or ER, including recent experience with cardiovascular patients on a cardiac unit, radiology unit, or acute care setting utilizing telemetry
- Proficiency in IV skills and ability to complete competency for central line access
- Competency in cardiac monitoring, knowledge of pacemaker modes, care of patients under anesthesia, and medication administration per UCSD policy
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating empathy and kindness
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and handle unexpected challenges

- Epic Radiant EMR Experience
- Charge Nurse Experience
- Port Access Competency
- Ultrasound IV Competency
- Certified Radiology Nurse Certification

Pay
Hourly pay: $91.16. Annual full pay range: $190,342 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Factors determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
Schedule
Per Diem, 20% appointment. Nights, 12-hour shifts, Monday through Sunday.
