About the role
Jacobs Medical Center 5H is a 12-bed Neuroscience Progressive Care Unit specializing in Neurology, Neuro-Oncology and Stroke. Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assess and provide nursing actions for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge.
- Practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance.
- Exercise independent judgment within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
- Manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results.
- Communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
- RN License issued by the State of California.
- BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within 6 months of hire date.
- Minimum six (6) months of recent RN experience in a Neurology PCU or ICU. If insufficient applicant pool, department may consider candidates with minimum one (1) year prior acute care experience in Med/Surg, Telemetry or higher acuity including experience with neuro patients.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, consistently demonstrating empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN.
- RN experience in a Neurology ICU/PCU.
- Experience working with neurology, neuro-oncology, and stroke patients and/or working with the NIH Stroke Scale.
- CCRN, NIH, PCCN, OCN certifications.
Special Conditions
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call, and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- If applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment; online-only certification is not acceptable.
Pay
Hourly pay scale: $91.16. Annual full pay range: $190,342 - $190,342 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%). Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
Schedule
- Per Diem appointment at 20%.
- Days, 12-hour shifts, Sunday-Saturday.
