About the role
The RN is responsible for providing direct nursing care to the residents, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is always maintained.
Responsibilities
- Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants
- Meet with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan the shift’s services, programs, and activities
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning shift activities as required
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required
- Provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to your unit/shift
- Complete and file required record-keeping forms/charts upon resident admission, transfer, and/or discharge
- Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physician’s Order Form
- Chart nurse’s notes in an informative and descriptive manner reflecting care provided and resident’s response
- Fill out and complete accident/incident reports and submit to Director as required
- Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician
- Develop and maintain good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel and other facility departments
- Create and maintain a warm, personal, and positive atmosphere, as well as a calm environment
- Receive/give nursing report at shift start and end
- Make rounds with physicians as necessary
- Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressings/bandages, colostomy care, drainage bags, blood draws, massages, range of motion exercises, and end-of-life care
- Monitor assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations for equipment and supplies
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information
- Report unauthorized disclosure of resident information
- Ensure nursing care is provided in privacy and personnel knock before entering resident rooms
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Registered Nurse with current unencumbered state license
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
- Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and relevant laws/regulations
- Current CPR Certification
- Long Term Care experience preferred
