Requirements

  • RN (Registered Nurse) License: RN Professional, nationally recognized and applicable to the current primary area of practice - CCRN, CDN or CNN
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing OR BS Healthcare related field OR an RN Professional Nurse Specialty Certification: Within 7 months of hire/promotion
  • 2-years' RN experience in the ICU in an Acute Care setting:
  • BLS certification with the American Red Cross or American Heart Association: ACLS certification with the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • The Charge Registered Nurse – ICU responsibilities and skills:
  • Works in a hospital setting and independently cares for a group of ICU patients consistently using the nursing process and clinical standards
  • Delegates appropriate patient care activities to other members of the health care team
  • Care for patient needs throughout their recovery in critical care
  • Monitor, record, and update care team on patient vitals and assessments. Identifying sudden or subtle changes in a patient’s medical condition
  • Responding to medical emergencies for critical patients
  • Coincides and documents appropriate discharge planning and referrals to ensure continuity of care after discharge
  • High emotional intelligence to create a positive patient care experience that includes simplifying medical terminology and concepts to the patient
  • Professional accountability and development
  • Acts as a professional role model for other members of the nursing team
  • Develops self and team members and shares organizational information
