RN Patient Safety Coordinator

About the role
Elevate your professional practice and career by applying your clinical, communication and educational skills as a Patient Safety Coordinator. This role evaluates and implements the organization’s overall plan for patient safety, focusing on patient risk within both the ministry and clinic settings. The position aligns with patient safety priorities defined by Trinity Health and Saint Alphonsus, providing facilitation and consultation to Nursing leadership and participating in the Nursing Council structure. The Patient Safety Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for the integrated patient safety program and communicates regularly with the board (governance) and senior administrative leadership.
Responsibilities
- Participates in the development of the organization’s patient safety strategic plan as it pertains to safe nursing practice.
- Develops and provides education and mentoring to Saint Alphonsus' Nursing Teams.
- Participates in unit-based meetings and other committees/meetings that align with patient safety initiatives.
- Travels within the area to make frequent rounds on nursing units/clinics, including four hospitals and ambulatory sites.
- Consults with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to identify patient safety opportunities.
- Observes and evaluates practice/process change progress.
- Provides just-in-time training and answers questions.
- Conducts audits or other data collection methods to evaluate progress on outcome or process measures.
- Maintains databases on process and outcome metrics.
- Displays, analyzes, and communicates findings related to nursing quality and patient safety.
- Maintains compliance with Joint Commission standards.
- Identifies evidence-based practice related to patient safety initiatives and assimilates it into current processes.
- Demonstrates self-direction and professionalism with critical thinking skills.
- Exercises judgment and tactful discussion of clinical quality and safety issues.
Requirements
- Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
- Experience as a program coordinator, in a nursing leadership position, or as an educator preferred.
- Experience with leading project improvement initiatives.
- Basic database development, data display, and analysis preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice methodology preferred.
Schedule
The selected candidate may support this role in either five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts. Up to 25% remote work is possible after establishing relationships. Office locations: Boise or Nampa, Idaho.
