Pay

$37.389–$55.115 hourly, plus a $3/hour differential for every hour worked and shift differentials of $1.50–$2.50.

Schedule

Part-Time, set 8-hour shifts: 0600–1430 (Days) or 1400–2230 (Evenings). Work every other weekend.

About the role

Under limited supervision of a Nursing Director/Associate or Nurse Supervisor, provides professional nursing care for ill, injured, or disabled persons residing in the Western Nebraska Veterans' Home. Provides clinical direction and guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses and direct care staff, delivers direct patient nursing care and treatments within the scope of licensure, and performs related work as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Direct, coordinate, monitor, and/or provide patient care activities and delivery of nursing care by licensed professional nursing and direct care staff.
• Train nursing or direct care staff in appropriate nursing care standards and techniques to maintain quality patient care.
• Assist in the orientation of newly hired nurses.
• Make patient rounds; closely monitor patient condition; assess health status and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
• Administer medications and/or treatments or supervise their administration by licensed or certified staff members.
• Evaluate and report patient symptoms, progress, and reactions to medications.
• Consult with physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other treatment staff to communicate necessary information and ensure quality patient care.
• Write a variety of reports on patient progress, medication use, and initiate and complete patient-focused actions necessary to accomplish goals defined in the plan of care.
• Ensure patient records are kept current, transcribe physician's orders, and record medications.
• Assist in the evaluation of patient progress as part of the interdisciplinary team; participate as a team member; develop, implement, evaluate, and revise nursing care plans and communicate changes.
• May serve as Nurse Supervisor or Nursing Director/Associate in their absence.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a registered nurse in Nebraska.
• Knowledge of:
  • Nursing theory and practice
  • Accepted standards of care
  • Policies and procedures governing nursing care
  • Sanitation and infection control standards, policies, and procedures
  • Techniques of providing quality nursing care
  • Standards for charting medical records
  • Current medications, their uses, and reactions
  • Nebraska regulations pertaining to nursing scope of practice
• Skill in coordinating and providing nursing care.
• Ability to:
  • Observe changes in patients’ medical conditions and effectively communicate these changes to other nursing staff and physicians
  • Consult with clinical specialists
  • Instruct others in patient care
  • Maintain accurate medical records and write periodic reports
  • Communicate effectively with medical professionals, direct care staff, and other facility staff
  • Follow oral and written instructions in exact detail
  • Maintain a helpful and empathetic attitude toward patients
  • Participate on an interdisciplinary team
  • Utilize sound and effective professional nursing judgment
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally and push/pull up to 50 lbs. daily; frequently bend at the waist and neck, twist at the waist, and walk or stand up to 50% of the shift.
