Pay
- Hiring Range: $53.50/Hour Plus Shift and Weekend Differentials
- Pay Band: 5
- Shift Differential:
- 1st shift weekends and holidays: $5.50/hr.
- 2nd shift weekdays: $5.50/hr. on weekends, and holidays: $6.00/hr.
- 3rd shift weekdays: $4.00/hr. on weekends, and holidays: $7.00/hr.
Employment Details

- Location: Western State Hospital
- Shifts Available: 1st, 2nd, or 3rd
- Work Schedule: 4, 8, or 12-hour shifts on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. or 7 a.m.-3:00 pm, 3:00 pm-11:00 pm, or 11:00 pm-7:00 am
- Minimum Hours Required: 64 hours per month
- Additional Work Required: 4 hours on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, as well as 4 hours on another holiday, such as the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, or New Year’s Day
Qualifications
- Current unrestricted RN license that is able to be utilized in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff
- Effective communication (written, verbal and sign)
- Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
- Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24 hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital which at times may mean working a 16-hour shift if and when necessary
- Complete all annual competency training to include TOVA III with physical restraints
- Complete and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers with the American Heart Association
- Knowledge of recovery/trauma informed care
- Quality care as a part of an interdisciplinary team
- Maintain accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment
- Create healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions unit, geriatric unit, and extended rehabilitation service unit
- Observe and report feedback regarding interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical and emotional wellbeing, and other situations
- Document and communicate skills
- Use specialized training for promoting mental wellness recovery
Additional Considerations
- Bachelor’s and Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution or higher education
- Psych Nursing experience
- Veteran or Veteran Spouse
- Bilingual in Spanish
