About the role

Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Main Street is a 5-OR, 2-treatment-room outpatient facility performing surgical procedures in Bariatrics, Gastroenterology, General, GYN, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Spine, Urology, ENT, and Orthopedics.

The PACU Registered Nurse provides continuity and quality nursing care for all patients, continually evaluating the patient's condition to ensure patient safety, comfort, and privacy. Responsibilities include assisting physicians in procedure rooms with tasks, conscious sedation, and sterile techniques as appropriate. The role involves comprehensive patient care for those emerging from general anesthesia and/or sedation, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in preparation for discharge.

Schedule

Weekdays only — no holidays, weekends, or call. Some early mornings and later evenings may be required; schedule is subject to change based on the surgical schedule and daily flow.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing
  • Active RN license in the state
  • BLS and ACLS required; PALS if required by the center
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in PACU or Critical Care preferred
  • Ability to make decisions based on nursing judgment
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet patient and unit needs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of PACU or critical care experience required
  • Experience with post-operative patients across multiple specialties preferred (e.g., Orthopedics, ENT, GI, General Surgery, Ophthalmology)
  • Pre-op or OR experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with sedation recovery protocols and discharge criteria
