RN PACU

About the role

Our PACU unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. The PACU leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and building every team member.

• Patient Population: Varied Surgical Cases
• Patient Ratios: 1:1-3 (depending on phase)
• Number of Beds: 34 beds
• Department Specifics: Designated Level II Trauma, 100% BSN, 40% RNs with certification

Schedule

• 34-hour work week: Wednesday, 9:30am–10:00pm; Thursday, 11:30am–10:00pm; Friday, 10:30am–9:00pm
• Call Requirement: Must live within 30 minutes
• Call: 1 major holiday, 1 minor holiday, once per quarter (days or nights)
• Call times: set night call shift Friday night; Saturday & Sunday – 7pm–7am every 6 weeks

Responsibilities

• Oversee patient care using a professional practice model, including patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses.
• Secure patient travel and address patient needs in healthcare.
• Help patients and prevent issues.
• Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
• Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
• Create, implement, and evaluate care plans; adjust plans to reach desired outcomes.
• Build therapeutic relationships with patients and families, managing discomfort and maintaining professionalism.
• Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
• Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
• Assess and document learning needs regularly.
• Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan; delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
• Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
• Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
• Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth, and contribute to peers' development.
• Show commitment to community service.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• RN license.
• BLS certification (or obtain within 30 days of starting).
• 2 years of recent PACU or ICU experience.

Skills

• Deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
• Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
• Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
• Proficiency in medical terminology, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common medications, and their side effects.
• Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and critical thinking.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
