Responsibilities
Assessment & Data Collection: Performs thorough physical and psychosocial assessments, prioritizes patient needs, conducts screenings, and documents findings accurately.
Clinical Judgment & Planning: Analyzes assessment data to determine nursing diagnoses, establish patient-centered outcomes, and develop individualized, interdisciplinary care plans.
Care Coordination & Implementation: Collaborates with numerous healthcare teams to deliver timely treatments, administer medications (including chemotherapy), provide patient/family education, and ensure safe delegation and adherence to care standards.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Continuously reassesses patients, evaluates treatment effectiveness, and updates care plans to reflect changes in condition.
Specialized Infusion Skills: Demonstrates proficiency in chemotherapy, biotherapy, and immunotherapy administration, as well as management of vascular access devices (e.g. Implanted Ports, PICC lines) and home infusion pumps.
Protocol Compliance: Applies population-specific protocols (e.g., neutropenic and thrombocytopenic precautions) and upholds patient safety and rights.
Requirements
Empathetic, resilient nurse with a passion for oncology care
Strong clinical judgment and communication skills in emotionally complex situations
1 year of nursing experience preferred
Chemotherapy Certification Course required within first year
Current Louisiana RN licensure required
OCN Certification and active membership in ONS and BRONS preferred
