Responsibilities

  • Practice guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics.
  • Apply professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures to care for the patient population served.
  • Record patients' medical history and symptoms; perform diagnostic tests and analyze results.
  • Operate medical equipment, administer treatment and medications, and assist with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
  • Establish or contribute to a care plan, including:
    • Administering medication with careful dosage checks and interaction avoidance.
    • Managing intravenous (IV) lines for fluid, medication, blood, and blood products.
    • Administering therapies and treatments.
    • Observing and recording patient observations.
    • Consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians.
  • Teach patients and families to manage illnesses or injuries, including:
    • Post-treatment and home care needs.
    • Diet, nutrition, and exercise programs.
    • Self-administration of medication and therapy.
  • Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides regarding patient care and delegate when appropriate.
  • Support efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills; precept new hires and students.
  • Collect health data systematically, prioritizing as determined by the patient’s immediate condition or needs, involving the family.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an appropriate patient plan of care that is family-centered, developmentally and age-appropriate, and culturally relevant.
  • Identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient and their specific health problems.
  • Develop individualized plans of care reflecting current nursing practice that is evidence-based, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Implement interventions in the plan of care, including treatments, medications, and emergency measures based on standing orders, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide nursing care to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs using a family-centered approach.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and document observations, interventions, and monitoring data.
  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the care plan to enhance patient outcomes and promote cost-effective, high-quality healthcare.
  • Evaluate one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional standards, statutes, and regulations.
  • Integrate ethical principles in all aspects of practice and enhance knowledge of cultural and diversity needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
  • Develop and evaluate evidence-based standards of care for patients and identify changes to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in and apply evidence-based research to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
  • Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.

Requirements

  • All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5 or more years of Registered Nurse experience (including direct patient care or indirect RN roles) at the time of hire.
  • Associates or Diploma in Nursing (required).
  • Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) (preferred).
  • 1+ years of RN experience in a med-surg or acute specialty setting (required).
  • 1 year RN experience for all Float Positions (required).

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
  • State and/or Compact State Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Arizona (required upon hire).
  • National certification for unit-specific patient population (preferred).
