Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Functions within the framework of organizational policies and procedures, demonstrating professional growth and accountability.
  • Maintains standards of practice and coordinates patient care activities of all assigned staff to ensure quality nursing care.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate from a nursing program Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Work Experience

  • No experience required; new graduates of a nursing program eligible Required
  • Nursing experience in a hospital setting Preferred
  • 1 year in a hospital setting Required for PRN positions

Licenses and Certifications

  • Current Georgia State RN license or NLC/eNLC Multistate Licensure Required
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification Required

Specialty-Specific Certifications

  • Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or those new to specialty) Required
  • Critical Care: ACLS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or those new to specialty) Required
  • Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) Preferred
  • Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or those new to specialty; experienced nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS) Required
  • Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification (prior to independent chemotherapy administration) Required
  • Pediatrics:
    • Identifies, reports, and provides protective measures for high-risk situations (e.g., abuse, neglect, failure to thrive, potential abduction).
    • Piedmont Columbus Hospital: PALS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or those new to specialty) Required
    • Piedmont Athens Hospital: PEARS or PALS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or those new to specialty) Required
  • Surgical Services:
    • PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU: ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (within 180 days for new nurses or those new to specialty) Required
    • OR: BLS only Required
  • Women's Services:
    • Labor and Delivery: ACLS Certification (within 180 days for new nurses or those new to specialty), NRP by end of orientation, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months Required
    • Mother/Baby: NRP by end of orientation Required
    • NICU: NRP by end of orientation Required
    • Newborn Admission Team (NAT): NRP by end of orientation Required
    • Nursery: NRP by end of orientation Required
