About the Role

Provides direct and indirect patient care in the patient care setting. Communicates with physicians, leadership, and co-workers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies, and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.

Responsibilities

• Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs, and consistently demonstrates core values.
• Initiates assessment and reassessment of neonate patients, including antepartum, postpartum, and newborns, in accordance with Kearney Regional Medical Center’s procedures. Collaborates with physicians to establish and revise the plan of care based on patient response and evaluates effectiveness daily.
• Integrates appropriate standards of care into the patient’s plan based on diagnosis and patient-specific needs.
• Treats patients and families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
• Executes therapeutic and supportive interventions, including care for patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status or requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management.
• Provides education to patients and families based on their needs, abilities, preferences, and readiness to learn.
• Evaluates patient responses to interventions and progress toward established outcomes.
• Incorporates cultural considerations into care plans and includes family or support persons as appropriate.
• Documents patient care and related information according to KRMC’s procedures.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and serves as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
• Ensures patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical errors; consults other departments for an interdisciplinary approach.
• Assists physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department and utilizes safety equipment as defined by organizational procedures (e.g., lifting equipment, PPE, sharps).
• Participates in department-specific and organizational performance improvement initiatives.
• Assesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques and educating patients and families about pain management.
• Assesses cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provides appropriate treatment.
• Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate actions, and documents.
• Maintains medical/surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
• Administers medications and parenteral fluids safely according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Performs waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and unit policies, interprets results, and takes appropriate action.
• Maintains compliance with regulatory agency requirements, hospital and nursing policies, procedures, and standards.
• Pursues professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to stay current with trends in the field.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program preferred.
• Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice area as required by State or Federal standards/regulations.

Skills

• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required (American Heart Association, American Red Cross for healthcare professionals, or Military Training Network).
