(RN) Nursing Professional Development Generalist - IMC/MS Unit
About the role
The RN, Nursing Professional Development Generalist at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital provides education support at the “unit” level for 7N, 5K and 6K, which are mixed acuity inpatient medical-surgical and intermediate care units. This position assumes operational responsibility for the development and implementation of staff education within designated populations, functions as a learning facilitator, supports orientation, practice transitions, and continuing education, and validates foundational education and skills to move nurses from novice to beginner/competent practitioners. The role is accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing education, and professional development to improve quality, safety, and patient outcomes. It supports system and hospital performance improvement and evidence-based practice projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assumes operational responsibility for the development and implementation of staff education within designated populations.
- Serves as a learning facilitator supporting orientation, practice transitions, and continuing education.
- Validates foundational education and skills to move nurses from novice to beginner/competent practitioners.
- Supports system and hospital performance improvement and evidence-based practice projects and initiatives.
Requirements
- A valid RN license in the state(s) of practice is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
- Advanced or specialized life support certifications required upon hire as defined by specific specialty (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field.
- Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
- Experience in nursing education and/or professional development.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
