What You Will Do
- Demonstrates the ability to assess maternal and fetal clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of nursing practice as they relate to obstetrical care services, including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and emergent obstetrical care.
- Partners with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care related to labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.
- Incorporates evidence-based obstetrical practices and collaborates with physicians, midwives, anesthesia, neonatal services, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and facilitate safe transitions across the continuum.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput while ensuring patients receive safe, ethical, and high-quality obstetrical care.
- Focuses on clinical quality outcomes, maternal and fetal safety, and evidence-based practice when addressing patient, family, and operational needs.
- Demonstrates an understanding of diverse maternal and family populations and the ability to adapt education methods to support comprehension and engagement.
- Assumes responsibility for coordinating and individualizing patient and family education related to childbirth, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
- Evaluates and documents patient and family understanding, including discharge education.
- Accurately completes and ensures completion of required clinical, quality, and regulatory documentation related to obstetrical services in accordance with Riverside Health System standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates the ability to delegate and prioritize clinical and operational responsibilities to support safe obstetrical care delivery.
- Recognizes and responds to obstetrical emergencies, utilizes appropriate escalation processes, evaluates the need for leadership or interdisciplinary support, and engages available systems to maintain patient safety and care continuity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, Nursing (Required)
- Master's Degree, Nursing (Required)
- One year RN Experience in Obstetrical Care (Required)
- One year Supervisory Experience (Required)
- Certified Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP), Licensed as Registered Nurse by state of Virginia or compact state Upon Hire (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days (Required)
- Obstetrical Specialty Nursing Certification (e.g., Electronic Fetal Monitoring, Inpatient Obstetric Nursing, etc.) Upon Hire (Preferred)
