Responsibilities
- Carries out the Mission of Love by managing a group of nursing employees, including supervisors covering various areas.
- Determines staffing needs and participates in recruitment, retention, and disciplinary processes for assigned care areas.
- Conducts performance reviews, coaches, counsels employees, and acts as a liaison between departments.
- Contributes to the comprehensive planning process of the nursing department and prepares budgets for respective areas.
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and/or Assistant Director of Nursing for budget development as needed.
- Manages employee schedules, time requests, and time records in the scheduling system.
- Invests quality time on assigned resident care areas to support employees and all other customers, solve problems, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provides praise and recognition to employees, especially within assigned areas of responsibility.
- Delegates administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to nursing charge personnel as needed.
- Fulfills the roles of nursing staff during staffing shortages.
- Collaborates with ADON/DON, other managers, and Human Resources personnel regarding nursing staff recruitment, interviews, and selection process.
- Mentors new employees and retains current employees.
- Meets monthly with nursing team members for assigned resident care areas.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative communication with nursing and other health care center professionals.
- Supports the quality improvement initiative, including nursing quality assurance, and ensures compliance with acceptable standards and facility policy.
- Reviews and investigates employee incident and accident reports, and participates in the Infection Control Program and survey preparedness process.
- Supports the Safety Services & Risk Management Department.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing and/or Master’s degree preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing required.
- Two years recent nursing experience in a long-term care environment, including satisfactory experience in a leadership role.
- Current knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to long-term care facilities preferred.
- Recent experience in dementia care.
- Positive interpersonal skills required.
- CPR certification required prior to or upon employment.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
