About the Role

Provide nursing services in the Nursing Acute unit at Martha's Vineyard Hospital in accordance with Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and established policies and procedures. This position supports patient care, research, teaching, and community service as part of Mass General Brigham's mission.

Martha's Vineyard Hospital offers a New Grad RN Transition Program designed to support and train RNs without Acute Care experience. Start your career in Acute Care nursing with dedicated training opportunities for specialties such as Operating Room, Emergency Department, Critical Care, Infusion, Dialysis, and Labor and Delivery.

New Graduate RNs will work one-on-one with a preceptor following a Tiered Skills Acquisition Model for orientation, gradually increasing responsibilities as skills are mastered. The program includes:

• 14-week program with periodic starts throughout the year
• Temporary employment with competitive pay plus differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends
• Day/Night rotation, patient observation, preceptorship on nursing unit floors, and classroom training
• Support from a Nurse Practice Specialist, RN Preceptor, and Nurse Manager

Responsibilities

• Care for patients across various age groups, from pediatrics to geriatrics
• Provide care for surgical and medical patients
• Ensure a safe environment for short-term psychiatric patients
• Demonstrate working knowledge and safe use of medications specific to the acute care patient population
• Identify learning needs and pursue opportunities for self-growth through continuing education
• Complete annual nursing competencies and mandatory training
• Evaluate age-appropriate behavior, motor skills, and physiological norms of patients
• Use age-appropriate interview and communication techniques
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Comply with all policies and standards

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Ability to care for patients in acute care settings, including medical, surgical, and short-term psychiatric patients
• Demonstrated competency in age-specific care (pediatrics to geriatrics)

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
• Experience in lieu of a degree is not accepted for this role

Pay

Pay range: $39.18 - $94.48 per hour, with additional pay differentials for evening, night, and weekend commitments.
