Responsibilities
- Provide hospice care to patients in their homes, private residences, or assisted‑living/skilled‑nursing facilities.
- Make autonomous bedside care decisions to ensure comfort and dignity for patients.
- Educate patients and families about the palliative nature of hospice and the benefits of comfort‑focused end‑of‑life care.
- Conduct 4‑6 patient visits per day, delivering holistic support.
- Attend weekly interdisciplinary team meetings at the local program office with social workers, physicians, chaplains, and nurses.
- Maintain patient welfare as the central focus of all actions.
Work Environment
The role involves traveling to patients’ homes or care facilities, with most VITAS nurses making 4‑6 visits each day. Once a week, nurses visit the local program office to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, ensuring comprehensive support for patients and families.
Requirements
- Current RN license in the state where the VITAS program is located.
- At least two years of nursing experience in hospice, home health, or community health within the past five years.
- Reliable transportation for home visits.

Pay
Salary Range: $34 – $35 per hour
