About the role

This opportunity is for Summer New Grads 2027 with a start date between June 2027 and August 2027, offering varied start dates based on graduation and NCLEX dates.

Our combined PCU and ICU is a 10-bed unit that allows us to care for high-acuity patients without moving them between ICU and step-down. Rooms are spacious, enabling free movement while providing care to critical patients. We provide an excellent orientation with a focus on ACLS, PALS, Basic Arrhythmias, ICU Core training, Critical Drips, and Moderate Sedation. Patient ratios are 1 RN: 2 Patients in ICU and 1 RN: 3-4 Patients in PCU.

We believe in self-care and provide a respite room on the unit to decompress, where you can enjoy relaxing music, tea, snacks, coloring, reading inspirational quotes, or writing on rocks.

Responsibilities

• Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards, coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
• Education: Identifies and meets learning needs of self. Attends education programs based on identified needs. Uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers and their developmental level.
• Evaluation of Care: Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance for revision of the plan of care. Participates in interdisciplinary team discussions. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation: Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects. Performs bedside point-of-care testing. Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures. Organizes and prioritizes care. Consults appropriate resources for complex care issues or unusual teaching needs.
• Leadership: Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations with assistance. Achieves goals within identified time frames. Participates in unit goals and performance improvement activities. Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to co-workers. Is aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.
• Patient Assessment: Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Synthesizes assessment data into a meaningful whole. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs. Develops relationships with families to promote advocacy.
• Planning: Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care. Uses multidisciplinary resources in planning. Addresses cultural and ethnic issues. Prioritizes tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Research: Reads journals containing studies or articles applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Requirements

• Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
• No prior experience required.

Benefits

This is a full-time position with standard hours of 36.00 per week.

Pay

Salary range: $32.55 - $41.77 per hour (Hiring Range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.

Schedule

Night shift. This is an onsite position located in Clayton, NC.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State-employed position.
