About the Role
A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient in the Neuro Medical and Neuro Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NNICU). The NNICU Relief Nurse must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, including understanding growth and development over the life span. The role requires the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's acute or critical status and respond appropriately. The nurse must be familiar with medical and post-operative care of acute or critical neuro patients, monitor invasive lines such as ICP or ventricular drains, and be proficient in neurological exams.
Responsibilities
- Provide care per unit policies and procedures.
- Assess patients, select, develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care.
- Administer pharmacological drugs as ordered.
- Perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.
- Monitor and interpret data from invasive lines (e.g., ICP, ventricular drains).
- Conduct neurological exams and respond to critical patient status.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (required).
- Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee (required).
- BLS certification completed prior to unit assignment and maintained (required).
- Knowledge of general nursing principles, organizational functions, and regulations.
- Familiarity with current trends and new developments in nursing.
- Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
