RN Navigator - Medical Genetics

About the role

Join our Pediatric Specialty Clinic in the Medical Genetics department, where every day brings opportunities to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact. You’ll work alongside Medical Geneticists, Genetic Counselors, Registered Dietitians, and other highly skilled healthcare professionals dedicated to providing exceptional patient-centered care. This department treats patients with chromosomal anomalies, genetic syndromes, and inherited metabolic disorders. In this role, you’ll support patients and families as they navigate complex genetic diagnoses, treatment plans, and care journeys. You’ll play an important part in helping families understand their healthcare needs while creating a compassionate and supportive experience in the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Integrates health care for patients/clients across the continuum of care.
• Collaborates with healthcare team and other professionals to coordinate and ensure timely sequencing of care.
• Enhances patient flow and interdisciplinary communication to promote early intervention.
• Supports patients/clients and family members by removing barriers to care.
• Evaluates outcomes based on clinical, financial, and utilization data.
• Functions in structured and unstructured healthcare settings, utilizing independent nursing judgment when integrating care.
• Utilizes age-related patient care protocols for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients according to department scope of service.
• Serves as a key link between providers, clinics, insurance concerns, communication, inpatient floors, and outside facilities.
• Establishes and maintains good interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Works with growth and development needs of client populations in the clinical area.
• Coordinates, facilitates, and negotiates with others to solve problems and implement process improvements.
• Monitors, evaluates, and trends patient responses using structured care methodologies.
• Works closely with ancillary and support services.
• Facilitates groups, multidisciplinary teams, and implements best practices as needed.
• Functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules of the state of practice and licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing strongly preferred in Bemidji, Marshfield, and Rapid City; required in Fargo and Sioux Falls (Sanford USD Medical Center and Clinics).
• Required in Bismarck or enrolled and starting a Bachelor’s degree program within one year of hire with a completion date within three years of hire into the position.
• Required in Fargo Network and Sioux Falls Network; employees hired after January 2025 without a Bachelor’s degree in the required field may be considered for an educational plan with proven continuous action toward achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within five years of hire, subject to Nursing Executive approval.
• Graduate from an accredited nursing program, including those accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
• Minimum of two years’ clinical experience preferred.
• Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring or possesses multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
• Obtains and maintains required department-specific competencies and certifications.

Schedule

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• 4 shifts each week.
• No weekends or holidays.

Pay

• Salary range: $34.00 – $51.00 per hour.
• $15,000 sign-on bonus.
