RN MedSurg Ortho Part-Time

About the role

As a Registered Nurse in MedSurg Ortho, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in line with departmental requirements and state/specialty standards. You will collaborate with medical providers and the care team to provide personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." You will advocate for patients, families, and caregivers while upholding the organization’s vision, mission, and values to ensure outstanding patient experiences and positive clinical outcomes.

In this role, you will primarily work with patients who have undergone surgeries for musculoskeletal conditions due to traumatic events (e.g., care accidents, sports injuries) or chronic conditions such as arthritis. Your focus will be on helping these patients regain independence after surgery. While orthopedic patients will be the predominant population, you may also treat and care for patients with other conditions and comorbidities.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, promptly identifying and reporting changes in patient status.
• Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers and ensure thorough, timely documentation of care in the patient’s medical record.
• Administer prescribed medications, monitor for therapeutic response, and take appropriate action in the event of an unintended response.
• Provide exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests, proactively anticipating needs, and resolving them.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures, ensuring understanding by translating complex medical terminology.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Associate’s Degree acceptable to start; must obtain BSN within 24 months of hire).
• Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact license.
• Current BLS issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care hospital within the past 3 years required; orthopedic experience preferred.

Schedule

Part-Time Day shift position, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Part-Time requires working two 12-hour shifts per week, which will include weekends.
