RN - Medical Oncology Specialty Unit

$10,000 sign-on bonus with a 3-year commitment for external applicants with over 1 year of RN experience.

About the role

• Unit size: 30 beds
• Patient population: 18 years and older
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 4-6 patients to 1 RN
• Department culture: Oncology Nursing Society support for education and resources, active Department Shared Governance, Mentor/Mentee Program for new graduates and those pursuing Oncology Nursing Certification
• Frequent skills/equipment: Oncology skill set (inpatient chemotherapy and radiation), palliative and end-of-life care, general medical patients

Responsibilities

• Perform all duties required by the unit within the scope of service.
• Implement procedures and theories specific to the area of practice.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care to ensure integration of information for the healthcare team.
• Complete initial assessments upon patient admission and develop appropriate care plans based on patient and family needs.
• Implement and modify care plans based on continuous evaluation.
• Ensure patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents.
• Communicate effectively with team members, offering constructive feedback and expanding knowledge through collaboration.
• Identify personal learning needs and take initiative to address them.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
• Perform patient care duties, including head-to-toe assessments, IV starts, NG tube insertion, dressing changes, medication administration, and Foley catheter insertion.
• Access and maintain Mediports throughout the shift.
• Maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits.
• Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
• Administer Chemotherapy/Biotherapy to patients both on the Oncology unit and throughout the hospital.

Requirements

• Certifications:
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
• Education: Nursing college diploma
• Work Experience: Over 1 year as an RN

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $36.80 per hour to $59.89 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
