RN Med/Surg Orthopedics

Fairview is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood, MN. This role offers a warm, inviting atmosphere with a humble and skilled team, combining innovative technology and expert care to create a healing environment.

About This Unit

This 33-bed Orthopedic and Medical Surgical unit cares for patients including:

• Orthopedic surgical patients (e.g., fractured hips or ankles, cervical/thoracic/lumbar spine surgeries)
• Medical-surgical patients (e.g., respiratory conditions like pneumonia, COPD, asthma; appendectomies, gallbladder removal, blood clots, kidney stones)

Opportunities for certifications in Med/Surg or Orthopedics are available. The RN leads the interdependent team, coordinating care for a group of patients through:

• Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs
• Outcome identification and care planning
• Ongoing monitoring and modification of the plan of care
• Application of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) and holistic nursing theory (Watson’s Theory of Caring)
• Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
• Patient/family education based on identified learning needs
• Active participation in quality, safety, and experience improvements at the point of care
• Compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and practice standards (e.g., infection control, patient safety)
• Collaborative teamwork and coordination of the interdependent team
• Contribution to department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement)

Requirements

• Degree in Nursing
• Active RN License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through Health Care Providers

Preferred Qualifications

• Telemetry experience
• BSN degree

Schedule

• 56 hours per two-week pay period
• Evening shift (8-hour shifts)
• Variable schedule, including every other weekend
