About the Role

The Nurse Manager serves as a role model, clinical and administrative consultant for Nursing and ancillary staff. Responsible for clinical and administrative decisions in the division in collaboration with or in the absence of the Director. Manages personnel, staffing, scheduling, and budget to ensure high-quality patient care and compliance with hospital and regulatory policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage personnel to accomplish designated goals and provision of nursing care and services.
  • Ensure adequate and competent staffing, and manage the daily schedule efficiently.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care and address issues affecting desired patient outcomes.
  • Ensure age and culturally appropriate care is provided, following Standard Precautions.
  • Assist staff to achieve their potential through innovative management practices and effective communication.
  • Maintain departmental activities within budget and implement cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure department compliance with Hospital and HCA policies, including all regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence and assume responsibility for professional growth.
  • Participate in Hospital and community activities to advance the role of the nurse.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on practice issues and participate in Management Development curriculum.
  • Develop and consult on department orientation, competency development, and preceptor programs.
  • Review, edit, and approve staff payroll.
  • Participate in annual competency and evaluation processes, employee and patient rounding, and department audits.
  • Ensure staff participation in unit and hospital-wide committees.
  • Monitor orientee performance and provide constructive feedback, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Provide opportunities for staff to participate in shared governance.
  • Assist staff in delivering patient care and services as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BSN required; Master’s Degree in a related field or actively pursuing an advanced degree preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a compact state license.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Certification in area of specialty or nursing leadership preferred.
