RN/LPN - Med/Surg FT Nights
About the role
Responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of the adult or pediatric patients on her/his assigned unit during a given period. She/he is also responsible for the direction of personnel assigned to her/him. Coordinates patient care with other health team members. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital matters.
Demonstrates responsibility & accountability for adherence to organizational and department values and standards. Completes all required competencies. Completes required ongoing hospital-wide competencies in the time allowed. Completes required department competencies in the time allowed. Has no incomplete action plans related to required competencies. Competency verification records are complete. Supports staffing/scheduling needs of the department. Works weekends and holidays as scheduled. Initiates individualized care plan on admission. Carries out physician orders. Collaborates with other health team members to coordinate medical and nursing management of patients. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
Actively participates in direct delivery of safe patient care and maintains a safe comfortable environment for patients. Utilizes computer for order entry, to access pertinent patient information and for internal e-mail applications. Demonstrates self-directed and self-motivated initiative. Adheres to Standard Precautions, Exposure Control Plan, Hospital Safety, and Infection Control Policies. Supports the mission, vision, standards, and values of the Medical/Surgical Unit. Demonstrates ability to appropriately communicate. Serves on nursing committees and/or other hospital committees. Participates in orientation and training of new nursing personnel. Participates in quality improvements activities.

Requirements
- Graduate of a state approved nursing program
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa, or another state who has enacted the interstate nurse licensure compact
- Must be verified in BLS and ACLS
- All full-time/part-time staff must be telemetry trained, for prn staff this is also preferred but not required
- Good interpersonal relationship skills: Works closely with patients, families, peers, supervisors, physicians, and other health team members
- Strong communication skills with and on behalf of patients, and with other staff members
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document
- This position requires successful completion of a Physical Capacity Profile screening
Qualifications
Wage commensurate with experience. 9 FTE, 3 night shifts per week, included in weekend and holiday rotation.
