RN/LPN - Med/Surg, FT, WEO Nights

Full-time night shift position in Med/Surg, Friday through Sunday, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM.

About the Role

Provides direct and indirect patient care. Communicates with physicians, Nurse Manager, and co-workers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform head-to-toe assessments on all patients and reassessments as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, and general patient populations.
• Adequately assess and reassess pain; utilize appropriate pain management techniques and educate patients and families regarding pain management.
• Revise plan of care as indicated by patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
• Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and resident care unit’s policies and procedures.
• Interpret results of waived tests and take appropriate action on results.
• Perform patient care considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
• Administer medications correctly based on age and clinical condition of the patient; follow the seven medication rights to reduce potential for errors.
• Formulate and evaluate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs; include family in teaching as appropriate.
• Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
• Perform treatments and provide services to the level of licensure.
• Treat patients and families with respect and dignity; identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
• Act as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
• Interact professionally with patients and families; involve them in the formation of the plan of care.
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span and provide age-appropriate care.
• Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
• Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
• Consult other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
• Communicate appropriately and clearly with Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians.
• Maintain good working relationships within and across departments.
• Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and families; coordinate with Social Service/Discharge Planner for in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
• Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.
• Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
• Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations.

Professional Requirements

• Adhere to dress code; maintain neat and clean appearance.
• Complete annual education requirements.
• Maintain regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, and local regulations, and accrediting organization standards.
• Maintain and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
• Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated time.
• Wear identification while on duty; use computerized punch time system correctly.
• Complete in-services and return in a timely fashion.
• Attend annual review and department in-services as scheduled.
• Attend 12 staff meetings annually or read and return monthly staff meeting minutes.
• Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
• Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
• Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
• Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current state Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Licensure within state of practice.
• Current BLS certification.

Skills

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; additional languages preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing and walking.
• Lift up to 100 pounds; carry up to 40 pounds; push/pull up to 450 pounds.
• Mobility, sight, hearing, and verbal communication required.
• Exposure to changes in temperature, disagreeable elements, biological, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards.
