About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the strategies and services required to meet the end-of-life care needs of patients and their families. The RN creates and continually adjusts an outcome-based plan of care using the nursing process, relationship-centered care principles, and a holistic philosophy to address the evolving needs of patients and families, ensuring a pain-free, peaceful, and sacred death.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit a “Patients and Families First” attitude, responding with compassion, flexibility, and urgency to each patient’s needs.
  • Provide care that patients want, when they want it.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan of care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, and spiritual needs, with input from the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.
  • Evaluate the plan of care and make interventions as necessary.
  • Advocate for pain and symptom management.
  • Educate and support patients and families regarding care issues.
  • Commit to continuous improvement of the patient experience, including patient safety, quality of care, and excellent service, while adhering to the organization’s Mission, Service Standards, and Code of Conduct.
  • Direct and supervise LPNs and CNAs.
  • Administer and document medications and treatments as ordered by the physician, following policies accurately and timely.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Attend shift reporting and Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to facilitate communication and decisions related to patient care.
  • Actively participate in safety initiatives and risk mitigation, completing all position and unit safety-related competencies and requirements on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in nursing (required).
  • 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in hospice (required).
  • Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license upon hire (required).
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association) within 90 days of hire (required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (preferred).

Schedule

  • Full-time, night shift: 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
  • 36 scheduled hours per week.
  • Days worked: Sunday to Saturday.
  • Weekend frequency: Every third weekend.

Primary location: Merlin & Carolyn Hanson Hospice Center, 4382 Cleveland Ave, Stevensville.
