RN Infusion - Oncology

We are seeking an Infusion RN to support the East Cancer Center infusion team, focusing on caring for patients receiving infusion therapies. Scope

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental, and age-specific differences in the patient population, including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
• Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history; collect and record nursing assessment and interventions.
• Review and report results of health status assessments, physical examinations, laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments to the provider.
• Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional materials; offer psychosocial support.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and prepare/administer therapies under physician direction and supervision.
• Administer medications/blood products using correct medication, dosage, route, time, and technique; ensure pre-authorization and consent forms are obtained where applicable.
• Facilitate dose modification by assessing patients, labs, consulting protocols, calculating doses, and consulting physicians regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
• Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheters; maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.
• Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture; restock supply areas as needed.
• Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and bloodborne pathogens; maintain disinfection protocols and equipment quality control standards.
• Facilitate clinical operations and patient care, including managing medication refill requests, maintaining efficient patient flow, and coordinating consultations, tests, referrals, and future appointments.
• Document relevant information in patient charts and facilitate communication between patients/families and the interdisciplinary team.
• Assist patients in locating community resources; collaborate with clinical research and act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
• Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed; serve as a mentor/preceptor and participate in professional development activities.
• Maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through ongoing educational opportunities.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred.
• RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
• Chemotherapy Immunotherapy provider card preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; must maintain continuing education requirements.
• Minimum 0–3 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year in oncology preferred.
• Experience with infusion processes and protocols preferred.
• Ability to prepare and administer therapies under physician supervision; program portable infusion pumps and instruct patients/caregivers in their use.
• Demonstrates knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use, maintenance, cleaning, and documentation.

Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

Work Environment

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
