About the role
This role is crucial in providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing various treatments, including chemotherapy, biologics, and specialty therapies. The Infusion Nurse works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care.
Responsibilities
- Administer infusion therapies, chemotherapy, biologics, hydration, and specialty medications according to physician orders and clinical protocols.
- Maintain thorough patient assessments before, during, and after treatment, intervening promptly for adverse reactions.
- Ensure proper handling, preparation, and administration of medications in compliance with safety standards.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, side effects, and post-treatment care.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance throughout the patient journey, ensuring patients feel informed, safe, respected, and supported.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, schedulers, and administrative teams to optimize the patient experience and communicate effectively regarding patient status and treatment updates.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient records in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, adhering to safety, regulatory, infection-control, and medication administration requirements.
- Identify and contribute to improving systems, processes, and patient outcomes through participation in huddles, quality initiatives, and training sessions.
- Embody the Optimum Standard of care, setting a positive example for others.
Requirements
- Active RN license in New Mexico.
- 1-3 years of nursing experience in infusion.
- Strong IV therapy and infusion treatment skills.
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication, patient education, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
- High level of professionalism, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- A compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
Preferred
- Oncology experience and/or ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification.
- Experience administering chemotherapy.
- Experience in specialty infusion settings.
