RN III Fetal Care
Position Overview
The Registered Nurse III (RN III) in the Fetal Care Program provides specialized inpatient nursing care to mothers whose unborn babies have complex or high-risk medical conditions and fetal conditions. This role is integral to a highly coordinated, multidisciplinary team focused on optimizing maternal and fetal outcomes through advanced monitoring, education, and compassionate support. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced nurse to practice at the intersection of maternal and fetal medicine in a nationally recognized program.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to high-risk antepartum and peripartum patients
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with hospital standards
- Collaborate closely with maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatology, anesthesia, and surgical teams
- Coordinate care across disciplines to ensure seamless transitions throughout the inpatient stay
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice implementation
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and families navigating complex diagnoses and care plans
- Lead efforts to improve documentation of the plan of care, care delivered, and outcomes of care
- Use clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to respond to complex situations

Job Responsibilities
- Provides clinical judgment when performing caring practices
- Collaborates with family, other health care providers and community resources to develop comprehensive plans of care
- Integrates patient/family education throughout delivery of care; evaluates effectiveness using teach back methods and by observing behavioral changes related to learning
- Maintains an extensive understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards
- Works with managers to lead efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital
- Maintains compliance with safety and departmental policies and procedures
- Ensures individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis
- Shares safety best practices with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives
- Communicates safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members
- Exhibits advocacy, moral agency and response to inclusion
- Collaborates with team using shared decision making
- Serves as chair for councils, committees, task forces or project work
- Improves, deviates from, or individualizes standards and guidelines for particular patient situations or populations
- Creates practice changes through research utilization and experiential learning
- Assists with development of competence in peers; formally, by precepting new employees, and informally, by sharing knowledge at the point-of-care
- Demonstrates awareness of unit competency needs, providing leadership to improve competence of staff
- Uses self-appraisal performance review and peer review, including annual goal setting, for assurance of competence and professional development to promote safe and ethical practice using the nursing process
- Precepts nursing peers and students
- Facilitates learning for members of the healthcare team and the community
- Takes a leadership role in working with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify, share, implement and evaluate safety best practices
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA accredited institution or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required
- Active Ohio RN License
- May be required to obtain other state licensure
- Active Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Certification required
