About the Role

Join a close-knit team of professionals at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center’s 20-bed ICU, where you’ll care for critically ill adults requiring life support. This high-acuity unit serves medical and cardiovascular patients, offering consistent, hands-on experience with complex cases. As an ICU nurse, you’ll collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, participate in the Rapid Response Team, and work closely with the dedicated Cardiac Center to deliver top-notch care. The environment fosters advanced clinical skills, teamwork, and professional growth in a supportive setting.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation).
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, document findings accurately, and report changes in condition to the care team.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and education based on knowledge of human growth and development.
  • Administer prescribed medications, monitor for side effects, and document administration per standards of practice.
  • Assist physicians during procedures within documented competency and skill level.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and participate in life-saving interventions, including CPR and code team activities.
  • Advocate for patients’ rights and needs, ensuring their voices are heard in care planning.
  • Provide patient and family education on medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
  • Implement and adhere to infection control protocols to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
  • Monitor and operate medical equipment (e.g., IV pumps, monitors, ventilators) for patient safety.
  • Promote patient safety by adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
  • Participate in audits, chart reviews, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Document patient care and education thoroughly and promptly in the medical record.
  • Engage in professional development to maintain clinical competency and current nursing standards.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
  • As a Critical Care RN:
    • Administer medications and treatments, including intravenous therapies.
    • Manage complex medical equipment, such as ventilators and life-support systems.
    • Perform procedures like central line insertion, tracheostomy management, and advanced cardiac life support.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance and comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • 0–2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical practices.
  • Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively.
  • Proficiency in administering medications and monitoring for side effects.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting patient care.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure (required).
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support (required).
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred).
  • PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred).
  • NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation (preferred).

Western Arizona Regional Medical Center is a 139-bed acute care facility serving the Bullhead City community. It offers inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic imaging, dialysis, medical, surgical, and emergency services. The hospital features the area’s largest ICU/PCU, an active OR, and a wound care clinic.
