About the role

The Nurse Resident provides patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, collaborating with the healthcare team to develop and adjust care plans while building clinical competency.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers high-quality patient care and customer service while demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions.
  • Assumes accountability for coordination and delivery of individualized patient care across all age groups.
  • Participates in the Nurse Residency Program to develop clinical judgment, critical thinking, leadership skills, and professional confidence.
  • Affirms patient and family education needs.
  • Advocates for patients and supports their rights and psychosocial needs.
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Demonstrates developing clinical expertise in dynamic care environments.
  • Implements strategies to support patient outcomes and efficient care delivery.
  • Manages resources, prioritizes tasks, and adapts to changing patient care needs.
  • Uses problem-solving skills to address patient care and operational challenges.
  • Attends required Nurse Residency Program sessions and completes associated assignments.

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
  • Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia required with less than 1 year of experience. For Behavioral Health roles, de-escalation training must be completed within 1 year of hire and maintained.
  • Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
  • Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required based on assigned work area.
  • Minimum Qualifications: Must attend required Nurse Residency Program sessions.
  • Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required, including use of electronic medical records.
