RN - Helen Keller - Emergency Room - FT - Shift 1

About the role

Maintains established standards of care, policies, objective, and goals in administering professional nursing care to all patients needing Emergency Services.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patients, implements department protocols and provides appropriate nursing interventions and on-going assessment.
• Implements life support procedures in emergency situation.
• Actively facilitates patient flow in the department.
• Promotes cost consciousness by directing patients to D/C area for collections and using supplies wisely.
• Treats all patients, families, co-workers and physicians in a customer friendly manner, actively giving information to patient and family, providing comfort measures, maintaining clean work environment and calling patients for follow up as assigned.
• Maintains accurate records, legibly documents and reports patient care and charges, time of triage, time placed on bed, and time discharged from Emergency Services.
• Documents and discharges patients giving appropriate teaching information and referrals.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emergency nursing procedures and equipment, medication administered in the department, nursing trends, practices and legal aspects of emergency nursing.

Qualifications

• Education/Licensure/Certifications: Current Alabama RN license or a current RN multi-state license.
• Experience: Prior critical care or emergency room experience preferred.
• Additional Skills/Abilities: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Must have knowledge of all equipment and materials required for procedures described in the Emergency Care Center Policy/Procedure Manual and Nursing Service Procedure Manual.
• BCLS, ACLS, PALS and department specific competencies must be maintained. TNCC is preferred.
• BLS must be obtained within 90 days of employment. ACLS, and PALS must be obtained within the first year of employment.
