About the role
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing services both direct and indirect for the care and treatment of the patient. The Registered Nurse will float to the area of need according to patient and staffing needs of the organization. The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individual patient care according to Nursing Services policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Assesses patient condition and initiates appropriate nursing and/or medical care in accordance with established guidelines.
- Performs nursing activities in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, Michigan Public Health Code, and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
- Develops, evaluates, updates, and implements plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient and documents accurately in the medical record.
- Delegates and directs specifics of care plan to Patient Care Technician or other health care workers according to those Caregivers’ scope of practice.
- Engages in patient/family teaching.
- Reports pertinent data of patient’s condition to charge nurse, physician, manager, supervisor, and other medical personnel, as appropriate.
- Acts as liaison between members of the health care team, patient, and patient’s family.
- Administers medications, performs diagnostic procedures, and treatments in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge and use of unit-specific equipment and appropriate supplies used to deliver the highest quality patient care.
- Coordinates admissions and discharges of assigned patients.
- Compliance with mandatory job-related requirements (i.e., staff meetings, in-services, annual competencies, and TB testing).
- Maintains professional standards and knowledge of current trends in nursing and provides evidence of current competencies.
- Floats to various departments as assigned.
Requirements
- Current Michigan license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
- BCLS certification.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Nursing experience preferred.
- Critical care experience preferred.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Graduate from an accredited BSN program preferred.
Skills
- Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the patient served in the service area (newborn to geriatric).
- Clinical knowledge and analytic ability necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans and interventions.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
- Ability to handle stressful situations with composure and professionalism.
