RN - Emergency Department - Supplemental Varying Shifts

Qualifications

• Current Oregon RN license
• Basic nursing skills
• Willing to work varied hours with flexible schedules and every other weekend

Preferred:

• Basic knowledge of psychosocial concepts and problem-solving skills
• Appropriate Emergency Services/Critical Care practice experience (in past three years)

Typical Physical/Mental Demands

• Ability to adapt emotional responses to the needs of people of varying temperament and disability
• Physically able to stoop, bend, reach and frequently lift 50 pounds or more
• Continuous walking and/or standing throughout shift required
• Maintain knowledge of and practice safe body mechanics according to Sky Lakes policies

Responsibilities

• Maintains an in-depth knowledge of nursing principles, practices, standards, and techniques, applying this knowledge in accordance with Sky Lakes policies and Oregon state laws
• Overall responsibility for patient care in the ED, functioning as a care manager/caregiver by assessing patient conditions and nursing needs
• Demonstrates patients' plan of care by setting outcomes and implementing appropriate nursing actions to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs
• Promotes healing by maintaining a peaceful, orderly, and clean environment
• Assigns and supervises patient care tasks to team members within respective practice parameters, evaluating and redirecting care as needed
• Identifies and communicates unit staffing needs based on patient acuity and professional judgment, reporting inadequate staffing to management
• Ensures nursing care aligns with the medical regime prescribed by the physician in collaboration with other disciplines
• Maintains quality and efficiency standards, making recommendations for improvements
• Facilitates patient and family learning throughout the hospital experience in preparation for discharge
• Reinforces continued healthcare through teaching and/or referral to case management/social services
• Maintains awareness of the legal aspects of nursing, documenting patient care within the Registered Nurse scope of practice
• Reports work performance problems, policy violations, or misconduct by non-RN staff to Nursing Management
• Provides ongoing education to hospital staff regarding patient care through in-services and individual orientation
• Attends departmental and other meetings as requested, accountable for the information provided
• Maintains in-depth knowledge and competency of emergency nursing principles, practice, protocols, and procedures
• Assumes department-specific charge nurse roles and responsibilities when accepting the charge nurse differential
• Performs other duties as assigned

Pay

$53.87 - $76.92 per hour
