About the Role

Registered professional nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process consistent with the medical plan of care and patient input. Collaborates with physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate delivery of patient care across all ages, including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Incorporates teaching and discharge planning into the overall care plan and delegates aspects of care to other nursing staff based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients, design and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate effectiveness, patient response, and progress toward goals.
• Modifies care plans as necessary, considering age-specific, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients.
• Collaborates with other disciplines to formulate and adjust patient care plans.
• Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages to deliver patient care.
• Utilizes pharmacology knowledge (actions, routes, side effects, contraindications) for safe medication and IV therapy administration.
• Provides patient and family education across all phases of care to promote cooperation and compliance.
• Assesses knowledge, plans learning activities, and evaluates education effectiveness based on patient and family feedback.
• Responds to emergency patient situations or internal/external disasters following established protocols.
• Oversees patient care delivery, corrects errors, and ensures patient safety and well-being.
• Reports patient observations, reactions, and problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for clinical decision-making and problem-solving on assigned shifts.
• Ensures continuity of care by processing and following through on physician orders and treatment plans.
• Sets appropriate priorities in patient care and adapts to workload changes.
• Acts as the patient’s advocate, ensuring patient rights are preserved and intervening when necessary.
• Delegates tasks to CNAs and student nurses based on their clinical competence and job descriptions.
• Practices registered nursing in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act and maintains awareness of professional responsibilities and legal scope of practice.
• Utilizes communication skills and resources to ensure effective interaction with patients, families, staff, physicians, and coworkers.
• Documents assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided for all assigned patients.
• Performs technical aspects of patient care according to policies/procedures, adapting techniques to patients' age and unique needs.
• Prepares and administers medications and IVs, considering age-specific needs.
• Performs emergency procedures (e.g., CPR) and assesses patient response.
• Demonstrates safe use of equipment, including electric beds, infusion pumps, mechanical lifts, suction devices, physiologic monitors, and traction equipment.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per AH policy: Required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification at time of hire and demonstrated competency in Dysrhythmia during Orientation for all departments except Obstetrics and NICU: Required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred.
• Acute care facility experience: Preferred.

Department-Specific Requirements

• Critical Care Units: Completion of Critical Care Course within 1 year of hire and demonstrated competency in IV Sedation within 6 months of hire: Required.
• Perinatal (Labor & Delivery): Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months of hire, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 6 months of hire, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring within 1 year of hire: Required.
• Perinatal (Obstetrics & NICU): Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months of hire: Required.
• PACU/SDS: PALS certification within 1 year of hire and IV Sedation within 6 months of hire: Required.
• Emergency Department: PALS certification at time of hire, TNCC certification within 1 year of hire, and demonstrated competency in IV Sedation within 6 months of hire: Required.
• Procedures Nurse Interventional Radiology RN: IV Sedation within 6 months of hire: Required.
• Preferred Certifications: MICN and CEN for Emergency Department RNs; PICC competence for Procedures Nurse Interventional Radiology RNs.

Pay

The estimated base pay for this position is $70.72 to $92.80 per hour. Additional individual compensation may be available through differentials, extra shift incentives, bonuses, etc. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package, and a comprehensive benefits program is available for qualifying positions.
