About the role
This position is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides comprehensive care to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric crisis. The registered nurse role involves rapid assessment, crisis intervention, de-escalation, medication administration, and coordination of care in a fast-paced high-acuity environment. The registered nurse provides services to adult individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in a 24/7 facility. The RN collaborates closely with psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safety and stabilization of individuals.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing mental health and physical assessments of individuals in crisis
- Administer medications, including psychotropic drugs, and monitor for efficacy and side effects
- Provide therapeutic interventions including crisis de-escalation and therapeutic communications
- Monitor and maintain a safe and secure therapeutic environment
- Document care provided and interventions accurately in the electronic medical record
- Participate in team meetings and case reviews
- Educate individuals and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and discharge along with aftercare planning
- Provide assistance as needed for other services including supported housing, employment services, and co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders (COPSD)
- Provide evidenced based services to assist individuals in maintaining or improving their ability to function in the community and work towards their recovery goals
Qualifications
- Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
- Prefer at least one year of Mental Health Nursing experience
- Prefer at least one year of case management experience
- Two years of inpatient nursing is preferred
- Must have valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
