RN Clinical - Pre-Post Op - Per Diem 10 Hour Rotating Shifts (Non-Exempt) (Union)

About the Role

The PACU Registered Nurse (RN) manages a variety of complex patient populations by utilizing methodical and evidence-based scientific practice standards. The PACU RN maintains physiological and behavioral functions, provides psychological and sociological support to the patient and family during the recovery process, and prioritizes improvement and/or maintenance of the patient’s pre-surgical state.

As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients, coordinates patient care and education, and works in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment under the supervision of the RN Clinical Coordinator and/or Clinical Director of Perioperative Services.

Responsibilities

• Consistently transfers scientific knowledge in applying the nursing process.
• Formulates care plans for direct and indirect care.
• Performs skills essential to nursing action and explains health treatments to clients and families.
• Delegates tasks based on scope of practice, preparation, and capability.
• Evaluates effectiveness of care and modifies plans as needed.
• Acts as a patient advocate by initiating actions to advance the plan of care.
• Initiates and supports change decisions.
• Participates in the development of professional practice, including nursing committees, research, policy development/review, and unit-based improvement projects.
• Demonstrates knowledge of current policies and shares awareness of new trends/technology.
• Provides appropriate age-specific care to patients.
• Utilizes the six core steps (data collection, assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and patient teaching) to manage patient conditions.
• Collaborates with surgeons, co-workers, and ancillary staff while providing direct care to PACU patients.
• Adheres to hospital policies, Title 22, and JCAHO regulations.
• Competently uses Cerner Millennium to place physician orders.
• Assists in establishing and maintaining performance improvement and quality control activities.
• Provides orientation, training, and continuing education for staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) *Grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019.
• 1 year of prior PACU experience or one year in a high-acuity Intensive Care setting immediately prior to application.
• Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
• Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, with the ability to perform duties such as whole blood collection and apheresis procedures.
• Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Critical Care Nursing Certificate (CCRN) or CPAN preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – CA Board of Registered Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – Must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already certified.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $44.00 - $95.00. When extending an offer of employment, factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal/state/local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, and external market considerations are taken into account.
