Responsibilities
- Fulfills policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to access online manuals.
- Completes Nursing Assessment upon patient admission, at each shift, and with changes in condition.
- Interprets assessment information and formulates Nursing Diagnoses.
- Develops Plans of Care with individualized interventions, documenting expected/projected patient outcomes.
- Administers medication and IV therapy correctly, completing patient care procedures at prescribed intervals.
- Delegates tasks based on others' scopes of practice and competencies, acts as a patient advocate, manages restraint use per policy, and ensures MD orders, assessments, and monitoring are completed.
- Provides patient/family education as needed, including room/unit orientation, Plan of Care, and identifying knowledge deficits related to diagnoses and care.
- Collaborates with Case Manager and/or physician regarding discharge planning, ensuring all transfer paperwork is completed, and belongings are sent with the patient.
- Utilizes patient care equipment appropriately and safely according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Communicates effectively with all members of the healthcare team, including patient and family, including shift to shift report, physician rounds, patient/family interactions, MDP rounds, hand-off reports, and facility email.
- Manages time effectively, prioritizing responsibilities, and takes meal breaks without incurring overtime, completing shifts on time.
- Observes regulatory agency requirements, including National Patient Safety Goals, Patient identifiers, Unapproved abbreviations, Universal Protocol, Hand-Off Medication Reconciliation, Clinical Alarms, Other Hazardous Waste Management, Biohazard Medication, Sharps, HIPAA, OSHA requirements, and JCAHO – continuous survey readiness.
- Manages the care of medical surgical patients, including THA, TKA, spinal surgery, and managing patients with cystic fibrosis, abdominal organ transplants, and hepatic encephalopathy.
- Manages the care of patients in the intensive care unit/telemedicine units, including managing complex critically ill patients, advanced therapeutic modalities, ventilator care, arterial/CVP lines, ventricular assist devices, lumbar drains, and initiating, performing, and terminating dialysis treatments.
- Engages psychiatric patients in therapeutic interactions, maintains a therapeutic milieu, assesses and monitors for patient safety, initiates and participates in treatment planning, and administers psychotropic medications after proper consent and documentation.
- Demonstrates de-escalation techniques and applies behavioral restraint/seclusion when appropriate, ensuring physician assessment, obtaining physician orders, notifying Manager, contacting significant others, and completing debriefings.
- Participates in professional hospital/nursing activities, including being a preceptor, obtaining professional certification, participating in research, and receiving public nursing recognition.
Qualifications
- Req Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019.
- Pref 1 year experience in a non-invasive Cardiology setting, with experience in all non-invasive modalities preferred.
- Pref 1 year experience in Coronary or Surgical Intensive Care setting, preferred.
- Req Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
- Req Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions, and ability to understand, follow, and perform duties, including whole blood collection, and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Req Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service.
- Req Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.
- Req Registered Nurse (RN) from CA Board of Registered Nursing.
- Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
- Req Fire Life Safety Training from LA City, required within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (required within LA City only).
- Req Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association.
