RN Clinical Nurse II- Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit

About the Role

The Neuroscience ICU (NSICU) is a 22-bed intensive care unit specializing in comprehensive neuro-specialty care. The unit provides treatment for a range of conditions, including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, epilepsy, spine injuries, neuromuscular and neurodegenerative illnesses, neurotrauma, and central nervous system infections. As a Joint Commission Certified Stroke Center and the first in North Carolina to receive the Comprehensive Stroke Center designation, the NSICU is recognized for excellence in patient care and outcomes.

The NSICU team operates in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with surgeons, medical physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses to deliver compassionate and high-quality care. The unit has received the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) and the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Award.

This is a full-time, rotating position (7 AM–7 PM / 7 PM–7 AM) with a 36-hour workweek, qualifying for an extensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards, utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
• Education:
  • Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
  • Attends relevant education programs.
  • Uses patient education materials appropriate to the patient population.
  • Assesses readiness to learn and developmental level of patients/families/caregivers.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes and revises the plan of care as needed.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex needs, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required.
  • Adheres to healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient/family needs.
  • Consults appropriate resources for patients with complex care issues, teaching needs, or high-risk discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • Develops professional growth goals with assistance and achieves them within identified timeframes.
  • Participates in intra/interdepartmental collaboration and unit goal development.
  • Uses communication systems effectively.
  • Promotes cost-effective care and provides feedback to coworkers.
  • Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting healthcare.

• Patient Assessment:
  • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine care priorities.
  • Includes physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
  • Synthesizes assessment data into a meaningful whole for communication.
  • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with families to promote advocacy for the patient.
• Planning:
  • Collaborates with patients/families to prepare or update the plan of care.
  • Uses multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
  • Addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
  • Prioritizes tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Research:
  • Reads journals and studies applicable to practice.
  • Brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Requirements

• Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
• If hired after January 6, 2014, must enroll within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing within seven years of employment.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
• One year of nursing experience.

Pay

Salary range: $34.22 – $48.38 per hour (hiring range determined by experience and internal equity).

Schedule

• Full-time, 36 hours per week.
• Rotating shifts: 7 AM–7 PM / 7 PM–7 AM.
• Onsite work assignment.
