This position qualifies for the UNC Rex Incentive Program, which includes up to $20,000 commitment incentive or up to $25,000 tuition loan forgiveness. Additionally, this position is eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance (based on location) and the employee referral program.

About the Role

3 East is a 28-bed acute care medicine unit designed to facilitate throughput for the UNC REX Emergency Department. Patients are admitted with a variety of medical diagnoses, including but not limited to TIA, falls, syncope, nausea and vomiting, cellulitis, anemia, and flu. Patients should be medically stable for discharge within 24 to 72 hours of admission. The attending providers are part of the UNC REX Hospitalist group.

The team provides holistic, collaborative, patient-centered care. Staff are dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and supporting one another through focused collaboration, communication, and a culture of encouragement. Responsibilities

  • Education
    • Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
    • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
    • Uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
    • Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
    • Assesses developmental level of the patient and factors affecting ability to learn.
  • Evaluation of Care
    • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
    • Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
    • Participates in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate patient care.
    • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Implementation
    • Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
    • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required for the patient care plan.
    • Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivering care.
    • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
    • Consults with appropriate resources for patients with complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, or high-risk discharge planning.
  • Leadership
    • Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations with assistance.
    • Achieves goals and objectives within the identified time frame or renegotiates with supervisor.
    • Is knowledgeable about activities that facilitate intra- and interdepartmental collaboration.
    • Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.

  • Patient Assessment

    • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.

  • Planning
    • Collaborates with the patient and family to prepare or update the plan of care.
    • Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
    • Uses a full range of communication to convey planning.
    • Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
    • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
  • Research
    • Reads journals containing studies or articles applicable to practice.
    • Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.

Requirements

  • Education Requirements
    • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
    • If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of the employment date.
  • Licensure/Certification Requirements
    • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Professional Experience Requirements
    • One (1) year of nursing experience.

Pay

Salary range: $34.22 - $48.38 per hour (Hiring range determined by experience and internal equity).
