This position qualifies for the UNC Rex Incentive Program, which includes up to $20,000 commitment incentive or up to $25,000 tuition loan forgiveness. Additionally, this role is eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance (based on location) and participation in the employee referral program.

About the Role

3 East is a 28-bed acute care medicine unit designed to facilitate throughput for the UNC REX Emergency Department. Patients are admitted with a variety of medical diagnoses, including but not limited to TIA, falls, syncope, nausea and vomiting, cellulitis, anemia, and flu. Patients should be medically stable for discharge within 24 to 72 hours of admission. The attending providers are part of the UNC REX Hospitalist group.

The team provides holistic, collaborative, patient-centered care. Staff are dedicated to exceptional patient care and supporting one another through focused collaboration, communication, and a culture of encouragement. Responsibilities

  • Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards, coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
  • Education:
    • Identifies and meets learning needs of self.
    • Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
    • Uses patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
    • Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers and developmental level of the patient.
  • Evaluation of Care:
    • Identifies expected patient outcomes and seeks guidance for revision of the plan of care as needed.
    • Participates in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate patient care.
    • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
  • Implementation:
    • Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
    • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required for the patient care plan.
    • Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in delivery of care.
    • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs.
    • Consults appropriate resources for patients with complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, or high-risk discharge planning.
  • Leadership:
    • Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations with assistance.
    • Achieves goals within identified time frames or renegotiates with supervisor.
    • Participates in intra/interdepartmental collaboration and unit goal development.
    • Engages in performance improvement activities and promotes cost-effective care.
    • Provides feedback to co-workers and promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment.
  • Patient Assessment:
    • Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
    • Includes physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
    • Synthesizes assessment data into a meaningful whole for communication.
    • Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of patients and families.
    • Develops relationships with families to promote advocacy for the patient.
  • Planning:
    • Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care.
    • Uses multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
    • Addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
    • Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
  • Research:
    • Reads journals containing studies or articles applicable to practice.
    • Brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
  • If hired after January 6, 2014, must enroll within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • One (1) year of nursing experience.

Pay

Salary range: $34.22 - $48.38 per hour (hiring range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.
