RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator - Orthopedic Reconstruction Surgery

Location: Creve Coeur, MO 63141 | Scheduled Hours: 40 per week

About the Role

Coordinates the care of patients for a designated service throughout the continuum of care; serves as a clinical resource in the area of specialty or expertise. The Orthopedic Joint Reconstruction Nurse Coordinator is an integral member of the interdisciplinary Orthopedic Recon team, working in the outpatient clinical setting in the West County area of St. Louis. Washington University Orthopedics Clinical Care is delivered Monday through Friday.

The nurse coordinator facilitates the multidisciplinary care of joint replacement patients with the goals of exceptional care, patient experience, and clinical outcomes. The Recon nurse coordinator improves patient preparedness for treatment through education, review of clinical needs, and support while also facilitating interaction between patients, their physician team, and referrals as appropriate. The Recon nurse coordinator works with the Recon leadership and physician teams to ensure patients are receiving comprehensive care while improving access and throughput.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients; completes health history and physical examination on patients; conveys findings to physician.
• Coordinates patient care, orders diagnostic tests, conveys findings to physician, attends inpatient rounds, coordinates patient appointments, and assists with referrals to outside sources.
• Assists physician and provides support with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
• Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties, including compliance with environmental safety regulations, infection control standards, and quality assurance.
• Acts as liaison and team leader by facilitating communication and coordination of care between patients, families, and health team members; explains routines and procedures to patients and coordinates patient care information to appropriate sources.

Working Conditions

• Normal office environment.
• Exposure to blood-borne pathogens; requires protective devices.
• Patient care setting; direct patient care setting.
• Physical effort includes: typically sitting at a desk or table; standing or walking; bending, crouching, stooping; occasional lifting (25 lbs or less).
• Equipment used: office equipment and clinical/diagnostic equipment.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with two years of nursing experience.
• Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with the Compact Act.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or obtains certification within one month of employment. Online BLS certifications without a skills assessment component are not sufficient.
• Associate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Registered Nursing.

• Skills in clinical experience, clinical research coordination, clinical research management, clinical research methods, clinical research operations, continuous learning, critical thinking, customer empathy, database management, effective written communication, electronic health records (EHR), Epic EHR, oral communications, patient care, patient care plans, prioritization, research-oriented tasks, spreadsheet software, and statistical analysis software (SAS).

Pay

Salary Range: $64,500.00 - $109,900.00 per year
