RN CICU, Allegheny General
Location: Allegheny General Hospital, Allegheny Health Network
Status: Full Time, 72 hours every two weeks, rotating shifts, weekends and holidays per policy, Union position
About the Unit
The Allegheny General Cardiac ICU is a 16-bed unit with all single-occupancy rooms, providing high-acuity medical treatment for cardiac optimization. The patient population includes cardiogenic shock, post-cardiac arrests, STEMIs, advanced heart failure, and electrophysiology cases. Nurses are trained to deliver complex cardiac care, including management of:
- Swan-Ganz Catheters
- Intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP)
- Impella Devices
- Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD)
- Pre-heart transplant care
The unit holds Advanced Heart Failure accreditation, LVAD accreditation, transplant accreditation, Pulmonary Hypertension certification, and Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification (C4).

Responsibilities
- Provide care for a designated patient population using the nursing process.
- Demonstrate clinical assessment and care planning skills.
- Deliver safe and effective care tailored to the age population served, adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Direct and manage patient care delivery by team members.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and execute a plan of care from admission through discharge.
- Assess learning needs of patients and families, providing education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.

- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
- Current State of PA RN licensure OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
- CPR certification
