Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) Charge is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the health care team using the BSWH nursing professional practice model. In this role, the RN works in the best interests of BSWH and supports the organization's mission and goals.

About the Role

Works in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24X7 staffing, including procedural areas like GI Lab, Pain Management, Dialysis, Infusion Centers, and IV Services.

Responsibilities

  • Uses clinical reasoning to conduct accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards.
  • Identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs, developing and implementing an individualized plan of care, and evaluating the patient's response.
  • Promotes safe passage for patients by assisting them through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays.
  • Delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient conditions, and employee competencies.
  • Holds nurses accountable for appropriate care, including addressing grievances and concerns and recommending decisions.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and community to develop and implement an integrated plan of care.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
  • Understanding of laws, rules, and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology; principles and practices of health promotion, risk reduction, illness and disease prevention and management; medications and drugs, common dosages, their physical and physiological effects, and possible adverse reactions.
  • Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer.
