RN - Birth Center Registered Nurse

Purpose

Provides and directs safe, effective, and culturally-competent patient care for mothers and infants. Key accountabilities include: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care using critical thinking and evidenced-based practice; adherence to Professional Practice Standards as defined by ANA; and active participation in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities. In addition, when effective assessment skills, independent judgment, and critical thinking are evident, roles will be expanded to include labor and delivery and/or transitional nursery.

Responsibilities

• Provides and directs patient care for mothers and infants
• Performs assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care using critical thinking and evidenced-based practice
• Adheres to Professional Practice Standards as defined by ANA
• Actively participates in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities
• May serve as group leader or act in an informal "assistant supervisory" or "lead" role, providing guidance, instruction, training and direction to others
• May provide information or suggestions on human resources matters

Requirements

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing
• Licensure: Registered Nurse in Iowa; Registered Nurse in Illinois within 1 year
• Certifications: NRP within 6 months; Basic Life Support
• Experience: No experience required

Schedule

• Shift: 3rd shift, 7pm-7:30am
• Status: .9 (36 hours a week)

Physical Demands

• Very High Intensity: Requires physical labor equivalent to lifting more than 50 pounds
• Requires physical stamina and endurance, resulting in considerable fatigue
• May require very fine dexterity and extreme muscular control involving various body postures
• Exceeds very high intensity demands occasionally 10-35% of the time

Working Conditions

• Routine exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions including physical hazards, health and safety risks
• Personal risks require safety equipment or precautions to be followed closely
• Exposure limited to 70% or less of the work day
